Sacriston is an ex mining village in rural County Durham. Pupils at
the junior school are predominantly white British and there are a
high proportion of young people from challenging backgrounds.
The school is in the third year of a Creative Partnerships Change
Programme and also worked with Creative Partnerships for two
years previously. They have a wide experience
of working with artists from different disciplines and are currently
working hard to complete their change programme.

staff and pupils separately and together to explore what it is
about learning outdoors that can inspire learning and how a
garden might be designed so as to create maximum learning opportunities. This
process will be discussion led but will also include creative writing and design
sessions.
One of the challenges set for pupils will be to research other
school gardens around the world and during the course of this research.
